Someone, someday told me, on this day, we offer all our books to the Saraswati idol and studying or even touching anything related to that is a sin. Strangely we were asked to offer everything like sketchbooks, drawing pencils and colours,to the idol so that she can bless it.
Which I did. Because what can feel better than getting rid of studying rituals for at-least a day.
But boredom hits me when I don’t paint or read or write or do something creative, since then.
As a hyperactive,disobedient and curious kid, i would still reach out for a pencil and draw something or read a book just to see what happens. I had this habit of directly talking to objects and things, and i asked the Saraswati idol, all sort of questions and trust me i am the living proof she does not get angry!
Now that I am all grown up with greying hair and of the age of being a parent myself, i think how my curiosity and disobedience shaped me as a person, and it feels like I was encouraged to ask questions and most importantly ask “why” since childhood. I still do, even at the cost of sounding stupid or arrogant.
Be it for negligence or ignorance, I was allowed to be me, in every possible ways while stories of humanity was showered without filters on me by my grandparents.
Now I feel, apart from all the necessary education to survive and excel in the human world, the most precious one being common sense and humility was not snatched away from me.
What could be a greater blessing?
To All “dushtu” kids out there, i have been in your shoes.
You will not be punished for your curiosity, but will be rewarded for the same. Trust me on this. And if you believe in her. She will offer you more options than you can imagine, if you ever can dive deep within yourself to find out, what comes to you naturally!
She is not here,just to bless you with good memory. But with the power of common sense too!
