Old bengali cinemas and literature has always been my window to what we were.
I have grown up seeing people from the time i have not witnessed myself.
They all came to me as characters from stories narrated by dimma and dadu.. and some more dimmas and dadus!
At this current age , after losing all those people, i have only one regret!
Why didn’t i listen more of their stories when i had them with me!
Remembering a moment my dimma shared from her very young age , where she listened to the music teacher who came to her richer friends homes..
peeping through the curtain, she would stand and listen him play for hours and hummed the songs secretly.
She said even though we couldn’t afford such instruments or a private teacher..
the world can never limit knowledge and stop a person who has passion!
When i sat down to paint this.. I imagined my newly wed dimma, retaining the childhood urge to listen and learn, and listening to the musician create magic with the black and white keys!
Some desires seldom dies.
An admirer once.. an admirer forever.
These stories will remain with me… for ever.
