If you know me for a long time and have seen me paint through the past years, you must be aware how much i love painting sleeping people.
Not only because they are the most unguarded, unfiltered during that time.
I like how they turn and twist in their dreams.
When it is just a cycle that goes on naturally, waking up and going to sleep, how much do we see within the time of slumber.
In this painting I portrayed a woman sleeping beautifully.
Yes that is the word “beautifully” on which i would like to bring your attention to.
From my childhood i have seen women sleeping in such poised way like princesses , in cinema, in animations… and i never saw the women in my life sleep so aesthetically!
I like how these r limbs go here and their, relaxing and finding comfort, on their own terms.
Clothes messed, mouth open.
They were queens sleeping, but the aesthetics didn’t match what popular media showed us!
But when i had the power to paint!
I thought of painting them in their most natural and beautiful ways of sleeping!
And we look like strange dancers while doing so!
Sorry, but not sorry… that is us.
P.s. the shonar kathi rupar kathi is a little tribute to our bengali fairy tale, where these were used to make someone fall asleep, most of the bengali thakukar jhuli fans will understand that!
