I guess most of the bengalis will know about this fun game called ghu ghu shoi.
I am not sure if it prevalent in other cultures too, but this was a source of joy when I was a child.
When i look back at my life, the word “Mother” has been kind of complicated.
I have not actually put the burden of motherhood on one person, but anyone who embraced me and showed me a little kindness. To my grandmother, my elder sister, and to many more whom i crossed path with till date.
But i have struggled to actually feel at home.
My mother has been a strong woman , a teacher whom i respect, but also someone burdened with life since i have arrived on planet earth.
Neglect has been fun and interesting because i cherished freedom from a very early age.
Also because sorrow hits me later.
She faced a massive cerebral attack when i was 9 years old, a story we can explore later.
And ever since i know, i will not have a normal life like other kids.
Which has pushed me to create art.
At the age when i could be a mother, and i choose not to be, i often go back to my own childhood, and bring back strange memories.
Ghu ghu shoi is definitely one of them.
And no better day to share it with you all on the mother’s day.
Wishing you all a very happy mother’s day.
